Here is a couple that the city has to offer and they are well worth checking out.
The Hexagon Theatre is a multi-purpose arts and performance venues, featuring ranging from recitals from the best bands to avant-garde theatre and comedy acts. With over 3 rooms to choose from, all with different capacities (ranging from 1686 to 22), artists are spoilt for choice. The Hexagon’s versatility is reflected by the range of different events taking place: in the next month alone, it will play host to Paloma Faith, Micky Flanagan and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. If you’d like to take a closer look, head down to The Hexagon, Queen's Walk, Reading RG1 7UA today.
Sub 89 is a brilliant medium-sized venue situated right in the middle of Reading at 110-117 Friar Street, Reading RG1 1EP. It opened relatively recently in 2009 but has gone from strength to strength ever since. It combines regular club nights with spectacular gigs from some of the UK’s top artists: Chase and Status, DJ Fresh, Ed Sheeran, Gary Numan, Babyshambles and Kate Nash have all graced its stage. If you’re looking for gigs on the cheap, this venue is ideal because tickets rarely exceed £20 and the awesome atmosphere is well worth the money.
The Jazz brings even more posturing pomposity to a city renowned for being the haunt of London’s communing fat cats. Combining a jazz bar with a restaurant, it is the perfect place for an evening of pretentiousness. A typical night entails sampling Dom Pérignon, noshing pâté and debating the stock market, all before throwing money at the ‘impoverished musicians’. Many a Conservative election campaign has been planned in The Jazz, to the backdrop of barely acknowledged free jazz and cigar smoke. If you’ve got more money than sense, simply have your chauffeur park the Jag at Madejski Stadium, Reading, West Berkshire RG2 0FL and enjoy your evening of hedonism and self-gratification.
